Student Life In Our Nation's Capital

Under Washinton, D.C.’s political austerity is wild place to live and study. D.C. is home to some of the most renowned universities, including Georgetown, The George Washington University and Howard. These universities offer more than just a gateway to the world of politics, offering programs in art, music, religion, history, medicine, law, science and engineering, as well as any specialty field you could imagine. These universities’ true strength lie not only in their academic offerings, but the setting in which they teach. They often take advantage of the availability of academic & historical resources that D.C is rich in – such as the Smithsonian Museums, the Library of Congress, The National Gallery and the National Institute of Health.

In addition to an impressive collection of over 18 universities, the city offers a diverse and entertaining environment on par with even New York City. If you’re into the outdoors or enjoy scenic exercising locations, there are innumerable parks and trails to take advantage of – including a loop over ten miles long along the Potomac River for runners and cyclists which branches off towards Mount Vernon (home to our first President)! Sports are big in D.C., with the Verizon Center (once known as the MCI Center) being home to the Washington Wizards and Capitals, as well as the Georgetown Hoyas!

When you first arrive in D.C., you might get the false impression that everything seems to close early in the night. The truth, however, is quite the opposite. D.C. offers a wide array of bars, nightclubs, music venues and art galleries in addition to its many museums, monuments and landmarks. Major performing artists frequent our nation’s capital – particularly at venues such as the Black Cat and the 9:30 Club – and there are nightclubs that suit any taste, especially in Georgetown and Adams Morgan – favorite nightspots of D.C.’s student population. Dining in D.C. is a particular treat, with a multinational cuisine available anywhere in the city (often at affordable prices if you’re willing to look). When things do finally die down late into the night, nothing seals a date like a walk through the monuments by starlight.

There is something for everyone in our nation’s capital, whether your goals are to become your state’s next senator, or even if you aim to change the system! This city is built for students of all kinds and not just political hopefuls. You will never find access to the world’s art, music, culture and people as you will in Washington, D.C.
