Since resident students live on campus for at least two of their years at Villanova, parties held in the dorms or campus apartments are popular. There are usually dorm parties almost every weekend. These parties are inclined to stay on the small side because resident assistants can break up the parties if they get too loud and in that case the RA can write up students at their discretion.

There are also usually a few parties every weekend in the junior apartments on west campus. These also tend to have a smaller attendance, but students say that they can be more fun than dorm parties because the apartments are that much bigger.

As far as Greek life goes at a college, at Villanova it is definitely a part of student life, but it is not as if you do not go Greek that you will not have a good social life. Thirty percent of girls are in a sorority and fifteen percent of boys are in fraternities. There are nine sororities and ten fraternities.

Villanova is not one of those schools with frat and sorority rows; in fact there is absolutely no Greek housing on campus. So you must go off campus to attend a frat or sorority party.

Greek life is not the whole the party scene at Villanova. They throw parties every so often. It is much more commonplace for a frat to rent out and bar or club and charge a small cover charge to get in. Sororities love to have formals and cocktail parties.

Many times team players will live together when they move off campus. If this is the case, the place that houses the majority of athletes for a sport will become known at the house for that particular sport. Examples include the "soccer house" or the "lacrosse house." In most cases, this means that they throw lots of parties.

Students also note that many times the men's and women's teams of a particular sport will coordinate events together. This can sometimes be an organized formal. Some teams may require you to take a member of the other team, but most formals are planned on an "invite anyone as your date" basis.

A really popular and common thing with college parties is to put a theme on them. Word about these parties usually gets out be Monday to let everyone prepare what they are going to wear.

Themed parties are especially popular with frats and sports teams. They usually tend to be pretty big and everyone gets really excited for them.

Themes can range from "golf pros and tennis hoes" to "players and biatches." People tend to get pretty creative with the themes and costumes, so plan to bring more than a sheet as a toga to school for these events.

Students don't really need a reason to celebrate so when a reason such as a holiday comes along they tend to go all out. Holiday themed parties are held by pretty much any group of kids. These parties occur both on campus and off campus, but the bigger ones often take place off campus.

Halloween parties are a definite must. There are usually a lot of these. Normally a bunch of frats and sports teams throw Halloween parties. People can get really into these parties and a lot of the costumes have had a lot of energy put into them.

Christmas parties are also very popular. It is an exciting time of the year as is, but throw in the fact that you are finishing exams and about to embark on a month long break and that makes the parties that much more popular. These parties are not necessarily held on weekends depending when winter break starts.

Saint Patrick's Day is a much anticipated holiday by students at Villanova. If it occurs on a weekday, many students skip classes to party all day.
