Villanova offers an adequate collection of fundamental and more specialty majors. The most popular major is business through the College of Commerce and Finance, with most students concentrating on Management or Marketing. The degree requirements for a Business degree include the core curriculum, the business core curriculum and required courses and electives required for the major.
The Business Core Curriculum includes business classes that you would take at any reputable business school from Financial Accounting to Business Law. The Management classes are taught with a hands-on approach and feature many guest speakers. Case studies are also utilized to take what you are learning and apply it to the real business world.
As a Management major, you can focus on a certain aspect of Business Management through your major's electives which include human resource management, management practice, small business management, international management and consulting. Should you choose Marketing as your concentration, your courses will reflect a major effort by the University to incorporate a focus on technology into the business environment.
Villanova currently ranks 8th on Princeton Review's list of "The 25 Most Connected Campuses" Laptops are used often in Marketing and Business classes. You will take Marketing classes in both Research and Management and then you will choose four additional Marketing classes to complete your major.

If you choose a major through the Business School, you can minor in another discipline of Business: Accounting, Business Law and Corporate Governance, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Management Information Systems, and Marketing. The amount of courses needed to acquire a minor depends upon the field of concentration chosen.
Over 35 minors are available through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The amount of additional classes necessary to obtain a minor in this school are contingent upon the chosen minor.

Engineering or Social Sciences?

About a third of undergraduates at Villanova choose to major in engineering or social sciences. An Engineering degree can be obtained at the College of Engineering. Concentrations at this school are Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Distance Education, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering. Choosing an engineering major at Villanova will mean that you will take classes that focus on mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering science, and engineering analysis and design specific for the course of engineering that you choose to pursue.
Villanova offers Social Science degrees through its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Majors such as Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, and many more can be taken via Villanova's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In order to obtain a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from this School several criteria must be fulfilled.
Bachelor of Science Degrees
Students are required to take 40 courses valued at three or more credits and two lab classes. The least allowed amount of completed credits upon graduation is 122, although most students end up taking more. The minimum cumulative GPA required to graduate is a 2.0.

The College of Nursing

The College of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with various concentrations. A Nursing major leaves you with a pretty full schedule; however it is completely feasible to be able to minor in another subject. The requirements for a minor depend on which department the minor subject is in. The College of Commerce and Finance offers a 15 credit Summer Business Institute that Nursing majors are permitted to take this program the summer in between their sophomore and junior years.
Nursing and Beyond...
You can obtain your Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Villanova's School of Nursing. As a Nursing major, you will learn beyond the classroom in labs and through clinical practice. During the first two years in the Nursing program, you will take many of your core curriculum classes as well as classroom taught nursing classes. The duration of your junior and senior year, you will take nursing theory and clinical classes.
The course load may seem a bit heavy to accomplish in four years to some people. Your first semester will be the only semester that you take 15 credits, every succeeding semester you will take 16, 17, or 18 credits totaling at 136 completed credits upon graduation. (Although it is important to note that some of those credits are one credit labs that compliment a lecture course of the same discipline.) The undergraduate Nursing program offers several additional study opportunities that can be integrated into the regular program adding to the educational experience.
Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is offered by the Air Force, Army, and Navy. Nursing students are able to participate in any of these three. Depending upon level of commitment, students can receive up to total financial compensation with tuition, room, and board. However, a few additional classes will need to be taken (ROTC Nursing Programs).
The Villanova Nursing program in collaboration with the University of Manchester in England offers students the option to study abroad for their sophomore year. The Times in London ranks Manchester's Nursing program as number one in the United Kingdom. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, students must have a cumulative minimum GPA of a 3.0.
Villanova University strives to give each student the unique educational experience that they desire. Different majors require various amounts of workload. It really just depends what is right for you and the amount of enthusiasm and interest that you have for a subject.
