Since moving to Richmond in October I have found that the nightlife can be fabulous it just depends on where you go and when. Happy hour at any place in The Bottom, The Fan, or the West End is always packed. But packed could mean with young people all the way to milfs and even past that just plain old people. It feels like each area carries its own eclectic group of people.

The Bottom generally is the young guys who just got off their 8-5 job and show up in their new suit - usually accompanied by their aging boss. Dont get me wrong The Bottom is awesome but if you go be prepared to get decked out and spend some cash. The Fan is made up of a mixture - anything from preppy to goth to hippie. It seems anything goes. This is pretty fabulous and is definitely one of the reasons I love the fan! The West End is a random mix and by random I mean just that - you sometimes have young people mixed with your middleaged balding white dude. In the West End you'll also find that the bar scene is nothing compared to The Bottom or Fan. You can hit up one of the many chain restaurants for happy hour or Bar Louie afterwards. Personally, The Bottom and Fan are my places.

While in the Bottom be sure to check out places like: Blackfinn, Sine, and Tobacco Company. If you want a more casual laid back but still classy atmosphere hit these Fan bars: Starlight (my absolute personal favorite), 3 Monkeys, Deluxe or Banditos. All in all the bar scene in Richmond is pretty sweet just make sure you pick the right night and bar. My suggestion find someone who knows and tag along!

Richmond nightlife

The nightlife at University of Richmond generally begins Thursday and ends Sunday. There are campus police that make sure no one is too belligerent. The apartments have parties every weekend where you can find a good time. The fraternities and sororities have large parties also. There is clubs and bars just off campus where shuttles take students to. The clubs and bars let you in if you are 18 years old or older. You get a wrist band if you are 21, and it allows you to buy drinks. Dancing, drinking, and music is what you can expect to find. There are a lot of cops stationed around the bars as expected. Overall, the large parties usually get broken up by the police when people begin to get out of control or walk outside with alcohol. If you are smart about drinking there usually is not any problems during a party.

Boatwright Library at Night

Well at Richmond, there are plenty of things to do. Firstly, there is always a party at the apartments. So head out there. But if you aren't into drinking there is lots of other stuff to do as well. There is almost always a lecture, or a movie, or something to do. You can take out movies from the library if you don't like the ones they are showing. If worst comes to worst you can always go and study at the library, there are plenty of places where you can hide and bury yourself in a book if you so chose. I personally like to go to the apartments on the weekends. It's a good way to unwind after a long week. But there is still tons of stuff to do.
