The University of Richmond has, by some people, been unfairly labeled "The University of Rich Kids." Although the price of tuition might seem to indicate that the title fits, the stereotype does not represent the majority of the student body by any means.
First of all, there is nothing wrong with being rich--in fact, I would love to be rich (and many people have shown that you can make it rich with an education from Richmond). But the connotation behind "University of Rich Kids" is that the students are stuck up brats. Before coming to U of R, I had heard a few people refer to the school like that, but when I actually enrolled at Richmond, I found that the rumors could not be further from the truth. I'm sure there are snobby people at any private school; however, I can honestly say that I have personally yet to meet one that I know of at Richmond.
Nearly everyone that I have met here has been extremely friendly and interesting to know. There is a congenial feel about the school such that even if you don't really know someone well, you can still feel connected with him or her by the mere fact that you are both Richmond Spiders. Everyone is willing to help everyone else out, whether that means providing notes to people for classes they missed or simply making sure their friends have the right reading assignments. People are generally down to earth and pleasant to be around.
The character of the students here can be attested to by the strength of the honor code--students can be trusted to take exams by themselves on their own computers. Although theft does unfortunately occur on campus, most of those thefts seem to come from opportunists visiting campus, not from the students themselves. If an occasional student is caught cheating, lying, or stealing, [s]he is dealt with quickly and fairly--meaning that those students oftentimes find themselves applying to other schools.
Richmond has a friendly and increasingly diverse student body that should appeal to people from all different walks of life. No matter what your financial status, race, gender, or religious preference, you should be able to find a niche here.

I cannot be more grateful for the way in which the University of Richmond Law School accommodates students with spouses and children. When applying to schools, it was important for my wife and I that the school we would eventually give our money to was a place where the individual student was important, and not just another number. This has been the case at Richmond through every step of our involvement with the school. They've helped in countless ways to make sure that as a student with an infant son at home, I would be given all the help they could possibly provide. My wife and I could not be more glad of the decision we made to come to Richmond, and I highly recommend any potential law students with families to give the U of R law school serious consideration!
