Although set in an urban environment, students say they feel safe around Temple, thanks to the measures security has gone to in order to ensure a safe campus. There are over 115 Temple Police officers, and 70 security officers, in addition to the Philadelphia Police who also can be seen around campus. The Temple Police can be seen on foot, riding a bike, or driving, to ensure they can get anywhere quickly if needed. If no one else is around to help, there are over 90 blue emergency phones that have buttons students can press if they are in trouble, and the call will go to the police.

There is a number students can call to reach the campus police, or if they choose to dial 911, Temple police as well as Philly police are contacted, which is good to know. There are two police stations on campus. The Headquarters is located on Montgomery Avenue, and the other station is on the corner of Berks Mall and Beasley Walk. Dorm Safety

In addition to the police and security officers, there are over 170 full-time security officers that work in campus facilities, including student housing. Parents can rest assured that dorms are safe, because there is 24-hour security present, and everyone entering the building must show their school ID. Guests in the dorms need to be signed in, and need to give the officer their ID or license while they are staying in the dorm.

Something else to put parents at ease is the lighting system at Temple. The school spends about a $1 million a year on the lighting, which is evident while walking around campus at night. Some compare the campus to a sports stadium, while others claim it looks like daylight even at nighttime. Whatever you think it looks like, it definitely makes Temple feel a lot safer.

Shuttles

The Temple University Escort Service also adds to the safe environment at Temple. The Shuttles will take you places on and off campus from dawn 'til dusk, and even to and from parties. While some students complain that the shuttle takes forever, and others say it sometimes will not even pick you up, it is supposed to run in a continuous route, so even if you have to wait 20 minutes, it most likely will come.
