Lucy's Hat Shop

Lucy's is one of the best nightlife and bar spots in Old City!! Drinks are super cheap and the food is perfect for sharing over a few draft beers. There are $1 Tacos and 25cent wings plus they serve the best quesadillas and nachos.

There are actually two bars so you always get served quickly, and there is outside seating if you prefer to people-watch along Market St. They have DJs every weekend and people are always in the mood for dancing and drinking. The front room DJ plays rock and roll while the rear DJ plays hip hop.

I recently hosted a small get-together for one of my friends at Lucy's, and I could not have been happier. They were super helpful and everyone thought it was one of the best locations to just relax and enjoy ourselves.

If you're heading to Old City, do not miss out on Lucy's!! It is a guarented great time, and you will be raving to your friends about this perfect party spot.

Brewskis?

Students at Temple, in addition to those at Drexel, Upenn, Villanova, St. Joe's, etc., all enjoy the wide range of nightlife options in Philadelphia. Whether you are underage, or 21, there is plenty to choose from, including bars, dance clubs, comedy clubs, and lounges. Between cover, cab fare, food, and/or drinks, going out can get expensive.

Students have to either have a job to support their nightlife activities, or choose the nights they go out wisely so as to catch the specials. Getting to almost any area of the city requires a cab or train ride, so that needs to be kept in mind when you are deciding between one more drink or how to get home.

For the Under-21 Crowd

Unless you are into the sweaty teenager- and locals-only crowd, or just looking for a night out of dancing, nightclubs are not really that popular in Philly. Most are 18 to enter, 21 to drink, which attracts the high school crowd. On the other hand, if you are not 21, you don't have that many options other than college parties.

A lot of the clubs in Philly are the same theme, but there are plenty to choose from to find one you like. The best spot for clubs is Delaware Avenue, where you can find clubs such as Egypt, Chrome, Adrenaline, and Flow. Keep in mind that cab fare (it's the easiest way to get to the area from Temple) and cover can get a little expensive.

Club Flow is a popular spot for groups of girls because it is attached to the male strip club The Cave. If you go early enough to catch the strip show at the Cave, admission to Flow is free. But beware of the high school crowd on most weeknights when the age to enter is only 17. Sunday nights are better with a 21+ crowd only, but there is a cover price of $10.

The trendy nightclub Chrome is decorated just as you would imagine, and is another popular spot for the 18-21 crowd. It is a huge club with lots of different rooms to offer once you are inside, including a comfortable lounge area, and an outdoor deck area that is open in warm weather. The club also offers some wacky theme nights, such as White Trash Wednesdays. If you are not looking to spend a lot of cash, go early on Saturdays when drinks are only $1.00 until 11 p.m.

Shampoo Nightclub, though not on Delaware Ave., is another spot to definitely check out. The huge club includes a main dance area, as well as six other different areas including the Groove Garden, with a Jacuzzi in the summer, the Velvet Underground, and the Fountain Room. With four different bars, Shampoo tends to be a 21+ crowd, except for usually one night a week that is open to teenagers, and "Smile Thursdays" which are college nights.

South Street is another interesting area for students to check out. During the day, restaurants and shops welcome everyone. When the stores close at night however, South Street is for the 21+ crowd.

A popular area for comedy clubs, theaters, and restaurants, South Street is overflowing with things to do. Some of the popular bars include Fat Tuesday, Blarney South, Copabanana, and Manny Browns. Downey's, one of many Irish Pubs in the area, is a popular spot to go during the summer, when the deck is open in addition to caf? seating along the street. Also found on South Street is the Laff House, Philadelphia's original comedy club. Some well known comedians have performed here, as well as up-and-coming comedians.

One thing South Street is known for is the music scene. The Blarney South features live music including traditional Irish folk, one-person acoustic acts, and the occasional fiddler. Fluid offers a huge selection of music as well, especially underground music, such as new electronica, funk, trance, progressive, and hip hop. Venture out of the area, and you will find some other cool bars to enjoy live music at.

The Electric Factory, an old warehouse located on N. 7th St., can hold over 3,000 people. The bar/music venue has seen a ton of popular acts, including the Foo Fighters, Wilco, The Strokes, and Toni Braxton. Also check out World Caf? Live, on Walnut Street, for a good music scene. The bar/restaurant holds up to 300 people in the concert room, features two stages, and the radio station WXPN's studios.

Draught Horse

Whether you want to watch the big game on TV, or just want to relax and have a drink, Philly offers tons of sports bars to do it at. Chickie's and Pete's is a favorite among Philadelphians, and was even rated third best sports bar in the country, by ESPN. Although located in three different spots in Philly, the biggest and best Chickie's and Pete's is located in South Philly, walking distance away from the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Here, rowdy sports fans can enjoy the famous seafood, ten flat screen TVs, and three bars.

Dave & Busters is another good choice for game-days, but has more of a family-friendly environment. Besides the restaurant, there is a bar area, pool tables, plenty of TVs, and enough video games to keep you busy all day.

McGillin's, the oldest bar in Philadelphia, is located on Drury Street, right around the corner from City Hall. Known as one of the best authentic Philly bars, McGillin's is a favorite among locals, the older college crowd, and business people. The bar is relatively small, and has a more intimate, friendly feel than some of the bigger chain bars.

Lastly, the Draught Horse is always a favorite among students. Located right on Temple's campus, this is hands-down the most convenient bar to get to, and one of the best as well. The bar, which features plenty of Temple memorabilia, has large screen TVs that are perfect for watching the big game, and a 10 foot tall HDTV projection screen that can pretty much top any other sports bar.

"The Horse," as students call it, also features good bar food, and a good variety of beers to choose from. Thursdays are one of the best nights to go, when domestic bottles are $2 and drafts are $1.50.
