Majoring in Elementary Education will thoroughly prepare the student to teach in all kinds of school settings, in particular urban and suburban. Temple is a good school for Education because teachers in urban school districts are in such high demand that upon graduation students can easily find employment around the Philadelphia area.

Class size in the College of Education at Temple is small, usually less than 35 students. Students also get the opportunity to participate in teaching labs, where they are placed in schools or in clinical settings in which they can observe and learn firsthand about teaching methods.

Within the College of Education, students can choose from an array of special areas, such as Elementary Education, Business, Computer, and Information Technology Education, Counseling Psychology, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education. Students who opt to take the more general Elementary Education approach will take Education Core classes, in addition to the Core Curriculum that everyone at Temple takes. The Education Core includes classes such as Economics, Geography, U.S. History, Linguistics, and a group of Education classes that include Instruction, Assessment & Evaluation, and Effective Use of Instructional Tech.

Majoring in Biology in the College of Science and Technology provides the student with either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Not only do students get the chance to be involved in laboratory and field experiences, they also get the chance to work with world-renowned scientists.

A Bachelor of Arts in Biology includes, in addition to the Core Curriculum, many classes such as Calculus, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Physics, Genetics, Cell Structure and Function, and four or more electives in Biology. A Bachelor of Science in Biology includes the same classes, for the most part, but with seven or more electives in Biology. Majoring in Biology at Temple is very appealing because of the interesting electives that students can take. A new course recently added to the curriculum is Coral Reef Biology in Tropical Belize, which includes a seven day field trip to the Great Barrier Reef of Belize.

These electives really add to the major because they could pave the way for the student who is interested in branching off from general marketing.
