The famous Philadelphia Art Museum, which most people recognize from the movie "Rocky," is only a short distance away from Temple. Different exhibitions are always taking place here, and on Sundays admission is free to everyone. If you are more of a sports fan, Citizens Bank Park, where the Phillies play, Lincoln Financial Field, where the Eagles play, and the Wachovia Center, where the 76ers play, are all in the same complex and only a train ride away. Concerts often take place in the Wachovia Center, as well as across the river at the Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ.

Food and Drinks

Getting sick of the cafeteria food is inevitable, and when that is the case you will want to venture out and try new things. After trying the local diners and pizzerias, take the extra hike down to South Philly for a real Philly cheesesteak. Located across the street from each other, Pat's and Geno's are competing cheesesteak places that both claim to make the original and best Philly cheesesteak.
Or if it is a big meal you are looking for, you don't even have to leave campus - go to the Draught Horse on Cecil B. Moore Ave. for a meal and drinks afterward. The Draught Horse is the ultimate college bar, with specials every night, music and dancing. What's even more convenient is that the bar sells take-out beer, and they are open until 2AM.

Pat's vs. Geno's
Article written by an anonymous user.
If you are not looking to go to a sit-down restaurant, then head down to South Philly and see for yourself whose cheesesteaks are better ? Pat's or Geno's. Both sell authentic Philly cheesesteaks, both are across the street from each other, and both attract people from all over ? including some celebrities.
No matter which place you go to, or decide you like better, you have to know how to order. First, you specify whether you want your steak "with" or "without" (onions, that is.) Then you have to decide what kind of cheese you want. Although most other places just give you American, Pat's and Geno's are both known for their Cheez Whiz steaks. Don't forget - while going to Pat's or Geno's may not be what you imagined a fine dining experience would be like, once you are in Philly, it is required of you!

Other Areas to Visit

Getting on any of the major railroad lines at the Temple station will bring you to Market Street East. Attached to the train station is the three story mall called the Gallery. Outside there are even more stores and restaurants to keep you busy, as well as the Pennsylvania Convention Center which is home to events such as the Philadelphia Flower Show and the Philadelphia Automobile Show.
Another area you can get to by train is South Street, a popular street for young people that has so many different shops, restaurants, and bars that it never gets old. If you are in the mood to learn about Philadelphia's history, go to Olde City, where William Penn and the Quakers first settled. At night, this area turns into a trendy restaurant and bar scene that attracts college students from all over the area.
If you are in the mood for something more low-key than bars and shopping, go to the huge Fairmount Park where you can lay out, go for a walk, run, or go for a bike ride on nice days.
