If you want a good time, then check out THE two bars across from SLU. I can say with great certainty* (*figure of speech only) that a vast majority* (again, exact quantity unknown) of SLU students have a "memorable" experience from attending either Humphry's, Laclede Street Bar, or both.

On any given Wednesday night, you can find yourself a good time with penny pitchers at Humphry's. Make sure you get there a little early (9:30 - 10:30 or so) in order to obtain a pitcher. Once 11 PM rolls around, drink as fast as you can, as pitchers of the sweet nectar only cost a coppered picture of Lincoln. That's right - a penny. At this point, you have an hour to drink as much beer as possible. It does not seem like a long time, and you may jump the gun drinking faster than you think, only to realize you still have 35 minutes left and a full stomach. 1 hour is a long time if you play your game right - you need to get a large group, as many pitchers and you can, and a spot close to the bar. Knowing a bartender also helps.

I once found myself with my brother facing 16 full pitchers, and the rest of the night to go. I became fiercely territorial at that point , as to protect the beer - as any man would. I am pretty sure I went home sick that night, of which is another story.

Another beautiful thing...listening to White Tiger - a rocking band composed of 40-something year-old men, holding on to some kind of dream they had in their youth. Awesome.

Around 1:30 AM, you head three blocks West to Laclede's where you can hit the dance floor or continue drinking (I am pretty sure there are $1 bottles, at least for awhile). Laclede's is open until 3 AM, and if you are lucky, you can spend the rest of the night bumping and grinding with a special someone.

One last comment: Laclede's might have the best happy hour special in St. Louis: 4 - 7 everyday. 2 for 1 beers and appetizers. I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite places to do dinner and a movie is the Moolah Theater. Why? Well mainly because you can order dinner and have a drink at the bar while you are waiting. But also because its not like those impersonal megaplex theaters that herd people around like cattle. The staff at the Moolah make it their job to provide an upscale atmosphere. Everything is flawless and people are smiling at you. And you can take your dinner and your drink in to the theater with you. Unlike most theaters that boast about their stadium seating, the Moolah has leather couches!! I hate regular seats because you can’t get comfortable, and there’s no legroom. At the Moolah, you can stretch out or snuggle up to that special someone.

The Moolah has played host to a variety of events. Saint Louis’ own Nelly has been know to rent the place out for birthday celebrations and premier parties. During the 2008 Presidential Primary, The Moolah, with the help of FrontDoor LLC hosted Barak Obama and members of his campaign for an election results party.

The website boasts of offering an “unparalleled movie going experience with plush leather couches, balcony seating, a full bar with an extensive selection and a ‘state of the art’ sound and projection system.” The Moolah is a favorite destination of SLU students because it is just steps away from campus.

Truemans at Benton Park

One word...Truemans!!!! By far the best bar in Benton Park. As a matter of fact my circle of friends would argue it the best bar in STL. Its located at 1818 Sydney Street in Benton Park. If you are looking for a good place to chill before or after a Cardinals game or want to grab a group of friends to watch Monday night football, Truemans is the place to be. Truemans has a great bar menu, exceptional service and great drink specials. I came to know Truemans 3 1/2 years ago meeting a new group of friends there one night after work and have been coming back ever since. During the summer months they host a competitive sand volleyball league and in the winter months host trivia nights and run Monday night football specials. 2 years ago the roof collapsed in a storm and we were unsure if our favorite bar would ever reopen its doors but finally after extensive rebuilding and remodeling its back and better than ever. Come out to Truemans for a late lunch and stay to hang with the bar crowd....hope to see you there!
