Philadelphian's know how to party.

Being from Kutztown, PA, I was brought up on natty light, bonfires, and shitty parties at the local university. I never realized what I was missing until I moved to Philadelphia. I moved here the fall of ’05 and enjoyed parties every weekend drinking Beast with frat boys, sport’s teams, and my fellow naïve roommates. Although that was definitely an experience, I’ve come to fully appreciate the party scene in Philly. Whether it’s a ridiculous house party in South Philly, a low-key bar hidden in an alley, or a popular bar in old city, the night life in the city of brotherly love is pretty spectacular.

It took awhile for me to get acquainted; I had to get off of St. Joe’s campus, meet friends, and then meet their friends. Once you get in with a few people in Philly, you’re pretty much in with everyone. Of course there are always new people to meet every time I go out, but it’s almost a guarantee that I’ll run into an amigo’s friendly face at some point (and this I love).

It sucks that the bars close at 2 a.m., but that's acceptable because there’s always an after party going on somewhere. For example, I went to a bar in north Philly two weeks ago (called Silk City). Once the festivities ended we were all ushered out into the bitter, cold streets until we caught wind of a warehouse party a few blocks away. I entered through a huge garage door with friends and encountered one of the most amazing gatherings I’ve ever seen; awesome djs, racy videos playing on the massive walls, and an assembly of sweaty people dancing amidst it all.

Soooo, next time you’re sitting at home on a weekend thinking of how there isn’t anything going on, simply take a trip to south street or center city and go from bar to bar until you find one that has the people and atmosphere that suits you (I guarantee that it can be found).
