Loyola isn't a good "party school." This must've been kept secret from me or something, because I ended up enrolling there. What was I thinking?

Want good parties? Go to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Indiana University or someplace like that. Necessity, though, is the mother of invention and when your school is bereft of good parties, it sort of forces you to be creative and throw your own. Am I beginning to sound a little like Andrew WK? Good, he knows what's up.

DIY is the mentality you need to have good parties at Loyola. If you don't do it yourself, the party will never happen and you'll never have the fun you want to have.

My roommate and I were lucky enough to find a great two-flat in Rogers Park right near campus for a reasonable price. It was huge, had a back porch and tons of space. I even had my drum set in that place and played them daily. I still feel bad for our neighbors downstairs (and their infant) but that kid is going to have an uncanny grasp of percussion should she choose to pursue that.

The best part of our place was that I was able to procure a ping pong table and there was actually enough room for it, meaning the most fun ever whenever we wanted it. If my roommate wasn't there to play, I'd readjust the table and play against myself a la Forest Gump.

You kids shouldn't be throwing away your lives trying to go to the coolest parties and meet the best-looking girls. That stuff is overrated. Ok, wait, no it isn't, but if you go to Loyola and want to have fun at nighttime, buy a bike with a light and ride around Chicago or call everyone you know and have a party.

I was a transfer student, barely knew anybody and my roommate's friends didn't really like us, so our parties never got that big, but lots of ping pong was played with pride at stake. I think alcohol was badly abused (sorry alcohol) and many of my records were played. So yeah, you can either go out and find gatherings or make like Jabba the Hutt and let them come to you.

I think I may have gone to one or two decent college parties in the time I spent at Loyola. The scene is really conservative and a lot of people would get scared if I started letting loose and being myself, so I spent a lot of time with friends at other schools and friends who didn't go to school.

Loyola students do all kinds of things to pass the time, like hang with rasheed, which kind of makes sense because the weather is so bad. What else should young people do to pass the time when it's zero degrees and they're holed up in some little apartment? With a party "scene" like Loyola's, you're really better off just studying or playing sports, starting a band or going out to shows.
