Victory after a Marathon

While attending Loyola University of Chicago I participated in Track & Field and Cross-Country. While being recruited I was unsure if I wanted to stay in the city because I am originally from there. I stuck it out and made the best of it considering we mainly ran on the crowded streets of downtown Chicago.

Being apart of a collegiate team was one of the best experiences for me. The camaraderie between the guys was something I still miss. The long road trips to different events allowed us to get to know each other like brothers do.

I specifically remember running at the University of Illinois- Champagne Urbana. It was my freshman year and we were ranked very high. I finally had a breakout race and was running with the two best seniors on our team. The training was finally starting to pay off.

One of the most complicated things was trying to balance school, athletics, and a personal life. My grades struggled early, however, my teammates didn't let me fall too hard. We had a reputation for being one of the best in the region when it came to academics and I am grateful for that.

The reason I sopped running was because my knees took a toll from running on the concrete everyday and a indoor track basically made out of plywood. I deinitely miss it and still try to follow the team year round.
