On the first floor of Mertz Hall, there is the student common, and directly across the street is a small house that has been converted into the International Studies department. While the building may be small, it is definitely one of the most important on campus. Inside there is a small group of individuals who truly believe, as do I, that every student should study overseas is possible. They have a list of every country they have sent students through. They have a list of every possible school to whose international programs loyola students could apply. They have a list of every school that allows students to travel through their programs.

Every conceivable country can be experienced, every conceivable living situation. One of Loyola's most prized aspect of the international studies program is the Rome Campus. Loyola owns and operates a small campus in Rome. A quick cab ride from downtown and the Vatican, this campus allows students from not only Loyola but from all over the country to live and study in an isolated environment with ready access to one of most historical cities in the world. A gated campus with good security, classes are taken on the first floor and living quarters are on the other floors. I highly suggest that you apply overseas and this offers a great opportunity. As a piece of advice, learn the language, at least the basics, before you go overseas, it makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
