The psychology major at Loyola offers a holistic approach to studying the human psyche. Typical courses within the psych major include topics around cognition, learning, development, social interactions, behavior, research, and abnormalities to name a few. Within the psychology curriculum you are also presented with opportunities to develop, conduct, and analyze your own experiments.
For those interested in research in psych there is also ample opportunity to participate as a research assistant for renowned professionals in the field. I spent a year working in a Social Psychology lab conducting experiments and analyzing data for a book that Dr. Fred Bryant (a popular psych professor at Loyola and distinguished Social Psychologist) wrote on happiness. These experiences not only allowed me to leave a small mark on the world of psychology, but also gave me a firm foundation for work in the field and a promising graduate education.
Loyola's psych program provides a solid background from which many opportunities are created. The faculty is outstanding, with few exceptions. Some are "celebrities" within the field, with their research being taught in textbooks used across the country. My education through this department will certainly benefit my personal and professional life for years to come.

The biology department at Loyola Chicago is fairly good by any standards. I graduated with a degree in biology and am now attending Stritch School of Medicine, which is Loyola's medical school in the chicago area. To a certain extent, I felt prepared - however, there really is no "adequate" preparation for the rigors of a medical education.
I also minored in neuroscience, which was a good decision. It is vey interesting, and contrary to initial thought, it is not that difficult. Many of the neuroscience courses are cross-listed with biology and are very managable.

International Film and Media Studies
Article written by an anonymous user.
I am a freshman at Loyola. When I was looking around at colleges last year, I mainly looked at film schools. I did not even think about Loyola until around the end of March, my senior year. I had no idea that Loyola even had a film program, but as I found out, it does.
The International Film and Media Studies (IFMS) major is a 42 credit major with 2 tracks, the theory track and the production track. I am on the production track. I have only taken 1 IFMS class thus far, but from what I can tell, Loyola has a pretty good handle on film production. Unlike most film schools, Loyola gives its students an educational basis of math, science, history, and theology. Also, the IFMS program stresses film theory over production at the beginning, which most film programs do not reiterate as much.

I graduated from Loyola Chicago in 2006. Choosing Loyola was the best place that I could have imagined to get my B.S. in Biology, and minors in Chemistry, Philosophy, Theology, and Medical Ethics. Yes, it is so easy to get multiple majors and minors with the overlap of courses.
The school itself has a very high reputation and some absolutely enlightening professors that I still think about today. The professors are also very open to students and will go to lunch or drinks with you to talk about your subject, or just life in general.
I know that I am a more tolerant, enlightened, and open individual in the world now that I am in that world after Loyola. No matter what orientation you follow in your journey, Loyola holds the key you are looking for.
Open the door. Welcome to life.

Loyola University Chicago’s School of Social Work, rooted in the Jesuit tradition of service for others with an emphasis on social and economic justice, introduces students to the dynamic and challenging profession of social work. The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) housed within the School of Social Work at the Water Tower Campus provides students with a program grounded in the liberal arts and social work education. The social work major equips the baccalaureate social worker to work effectively at a generalist level with individuals, families, small groups, organizations, and communities. Social work majors can also have a second major from other departments within the University. BSW majors at Loyola are eligible to apply to the “5 year” MSW program within the School of Social Work which allows admitted students to complete the Master’s program in one year.
