loyola chicago psychology class

There are two types of professors at Loyola (and most other universities): those who are there to do research and those who are there to teach. The latter of these create the most profound learning experiences. For me, a perfect example of this type of professor is Dr. Linda Heath from the psychology department. From the very first day of class it was clear that her mission was to engage you in her teachings and spark a genuine interest in the field—a feat at which she is most successful.

I enrolled in two of Dr. Heath’s classes; Intro to Psychology as a freshman and Psychology and Law as a junior. Her teaching style was very organized, and at the same time informal, making class feel more like an interesting conversation. You always left knowing what was important and that she was truly committed to furthering your education. She told incredible stories from experiences she has had with clients and research participants, connecting course materials to concrete, real life experiences.

Dr. Heath is extremely passionate about her work and it shows in every lecture of every class. Her enthusiasm for and knowledge of the subject make for a truly memorable Loyola experience.

Cap & Gown - All Worth It!

Loyola University Chicago began offering the Bachelor in Social Work in the early 1970's. It has grown tremendously since its beginning and has 150 majors in the program at this time. Being a BSW student offers students the opportunity to prepare as entry level social workers and forms the basis for entering a Masters program (MSW). This program is one of the few in the country which allows BSW students to apply and begin their master's program in their senior year; therefore, enabling them to complete their MSW one year beyond their bachelors.

Loyola University Chicago is located in the heart of the city and offers students many rich experiences in addition to the educational experience. The BSW is housed within the School of Social Work which is on the Water Tower Campus on Michigan Ave. in downtown Chicago.
