Every school has its party Dorm. For Georgetown, this is it. Now, New South it is quite a nice place to live, although that wasn't always the case. The building was built in the 1950s and was pretty much a dump by the mid-90s. The women's bathrooms even had urinals in them: the dorm was built before the school even accepted female applicants. A few years ago, the school decided to spend nearly $20 million renovating the building. New South is set up like a traditional dorm with long hallways and communal bathrooms. There are four floors with 44 to 50 rooms on a floor, and floors are coed by wing. There are sinks in the room though, so you don't have to walk all the way to the bathroom if you just want to change your contacts or brush your teeth. People are social and the doors are always open so you can always hear tell going on. There are and great views, too. You can see the Potomac River from some of the rooms, and there are views of monuments in Virginia.

Village C is the newest freshman dorm. It tends to be a bit quieter than New South, and it has private bathrooms in each room--a very nice feature, virtually unheard of in most freshmen dorms. It hasn't had many fix-ups since it was built in the 1980s, but renovations are underway. Large common rooms are available for people to hang out and/or do homework in. Unfortunately, Village C West is doesn't have kitchens in the common rooms, but this is likely to change in the future.

Harbin is Georgetown's one and only high-rise dorm. Rather than spreading students out in a long hallway (where people at the ends rarely know each other), Harbin is set up cluster-style. That way, you get to know the people you live next to really well. The clusters consist of a small hallway with eight rooms all clustered around a shared bathroom, which is nice, because you don't have to walk far to take a shower. There are three clusters per floor that center around a common room. Floors are co-ed, but the clusters themselves are single-sex.

Darnall Hall was built in 1965 and ranked as the 19th most sexually active dorms in the country by a recent study conducted by Cornell University. Darnall used to be the transfer and international student dorm, but in the 2004-2005 school year, it was converted into a freshman dorm. This may change in the future as construction projects continue. There are six floors, and each floor has two common bathrooms and a furnished community room with a kitchen. There are two people to a room, and the dimensions are usually about 16 by 11 feet.

Georgetown university

Harbin, offers a unique freshman experience different from both Village C and New South. Harbin is structured in clusters of about 16 people. The floors are co-ed but the clusters or segregated. Basically your cluster becomes your family or team for that first year. Unlike your friends in New South who will have become alcoholic and dropped out of school after their first semester, living in Harbin will give you a few close friends that you will keep long after you your freshman year and long after college ends. Located centrally in campus you will also have an additional 5 minutes to sleep before every class.
