Drexel students are able to walk to most places, but public transportation is still readily available. Also, since Drexel University is in Philadelphia 30th Street Station will conveniently get you to New York, Washington, DC. The Drexel Shuttle Service assists students in their daily schedules.

Walking the City

Since Philadelphia is a city, walking is always good bet. In order to avoid traffic and keep costs low, students often walk around the city. Center City is approximately ten minutes away. Many students at Drexel also use a bike to get around campus and to surrounding areas.

Drexel University Shuttle

Drexel University shuttle service is available for free to all students and staff. The Drexel shuttle service provides five different routes that extend through most of Philadelphia. Drexel staff and students are also permitted to ride on University of Pennsylvania's East and West routes. Drexel wants to enhance safety and provide a means for students to travel to and from campus.

Blue Route-

The Drexel shuttle blue route extends from 33rd and Market to 43rd and Walnut. It is available from 4:15 pm to 11:15 pm during the weekday. On the weekend it is available from 2:15 pm to 8:45 pm.

Gold Route-

The Drexel shuttle gold route extends from 33rd and Market to 44th and Walnut westbound. Eastbound it goes from 38th and Spruce to 33rd and Market. The gold route is available Monday-Friday, 6:15 pm - 1:15 am.

Dragon Route-

The Drexel shuttle dragon route travels from 33rd and Market to 15th and Race, 5:45 am - 11 pm. It is only available during the week. This shuttle is used by many nursing students and also students that are working in center city.

Queen Lane-

The Drexel shuttle queen lane route travels from Queen lane to Hahnemann Hospital. It is available from 5 am to 9:45 pm.

The schedules are not updated very often, maybe once a year, but the Drexel shuttles are usually on time. I have had a couple instances where a time slot was skipped but you usually only have to wait another 15 minutes for the next one. The gold route is a quick, easy and free way to get into center city either to hangout or if you are on coop.

One of the biggest downfalls of city life is parking. It's always going to be scarce and expensive. This is no exception for Drexel.

If you choose to bring your car to school there are a few options. First is to pay the meters. It is $1.00 per hour. Lots A and E are metered lots. There is also street parking surrounding the campus. Drexel provides an interactive campus map of all parking locations on the University City Main Campus.

The other is to obtain a parking permit from the school. Students are able to park in lots G, C, and F. For each term parking in these lots is $306. All other permits are $282 per term. If one does purchase a parking permit they are guaranteed a spot in the lot which really makes it worth it if you plan to have a car there most of the time.

There are two subway lines. The Market-Frankfort goes east to west while the Broad Street goes North to South. The Market-Frankfort subway line quickly gets you to center city. The Broad Street line takes you to the many sports venues in South Philadelphia.

There are also numerous buses that pass by Drexel's campus. The buses take you to every part of Philadelphia.

Tokens can be purchased at SEPTA offices. The tokens are discounted. If one chooses to pay on SEPTA, the cost is about $2.

30th Street Station

The train station is a five minute walk from the Drexel campus. This is where the Amtrak trains leaves. There are also local trains that take you to the suburbs of Philadelphia, including Manayunk. 30th Street Statition is the best station in Philadelphia so it is nice for Drexel students to be so close to it.
