Before you get to college, you're dying to know what is really going on at the parties. The truth is that it's just a party. You go to have a good time and meet new people. People are chatting, dancing and having fabulous times with their friends. Drexel students look forward to the weekend, when they can just chill out and have a good time.

House Parties

House parties are always happening. These are pretty much just parties happening that don't have a Greek association. There might be a cover, just depending on what's going on at the party. Music is usually blasting to motivate some dancing. Many students who live off campus are close by, so they parties are definitely close enough to walk.

Many sports players live in houses together off campus. These teams often have parties, typically after a big win. These celebrations are always fun, especially when they're in a good mood after a good game.

Erin Express 2008

Oh what a tradition! Where else to you see a pre-game party for at 6 for hitting the bars at 9? Oh and did I mention we are talking AM here?

Cover: Free
When: Two Saturdays before St. Patty's day

I don't know where to begin! But I will start with the fun fact that despite what McFadden's says (they call running of the Santa's - also a very fun event-the biggest pub crawl in Philadelphia) Erin Express is indeed by far the biggest drinking event in Philadelphia! It is also not an event for the weak, it takes guts and determination to drink for 17 hours straight, few survive it until the bars close, but those who do-- earn there prize in the form of good time!

To give you a little glimpse into a day in the life of what is know as Erin Express:

My alarm goes off.beep beep beep. It is 6 am on a Saturday, my head hurts, the beeping doesn't help-yes I took it easy last night, but easy is relative when you are waking up at 6 am. I crawl to the edge of my bed where my computer is, and go to my play list I made, entitled "Irish Music". Mostly random bagpipe music with some Clancy Brothers and The Pouges mixed in. As I hit the play button and crank the music full blast I think to myself how pissed my neighbors are night now as I say back in my bed.

Half way through "Whiskey in the Jar" something magical starts happening. It starts in my fingers and toes; moves over my face in the form of a grin not even the clap could take away. In seconds I am out of bed and skipping around my apartment. Into my roommate's room, he is up already and joins in. Into the kitchen-I flick on the coffee pot, which already has grinds in it, as if anticipating the day ahead--just like myself. Stupid coffee pot, it can't drink alcohol, it can't even walk. We run outside and give a few yells and skips around the yard-forgetting that we are in the middle of Philadelphia, two men, in our underpants; but we don't care. We know if we can make it to the end of the night it will not be hard to prove how straight we are the old fashion way. It is just the beginning, the party has yet to come, but as we put the baileys in our coffee we imagine what the day will become.

History: It was started by William Pawliczek of Cavanaugh's and Paul Ryan, Sr. of Smokey Joe's over 30 years ago. Since then it has grown to add most of the Irish bars around the city. But the biggest party definitely is in University City with the major three being Cav's, Blarney Stone, and Smokey Joe's.

Logistics: There are 8 buses that truck fellow erin express'er around the city stopping at each bar for a list please look at:

Greek life is not the only social scene on campus. If you are not a member of Greek life, you will still have a social life. The frats often throw parties. They are typically pretty crowded, but a good time. Since there are 13 different fraternities there is typically at least one frat party on any given weekend. (There usually are more than just one.)

They typically charge a $5 cover charge. Money can be used for fundraising for their philanthropies or to cover the cost of decorations or a live band. Sometimes girls don't get charged. As always with Greek life, certain parties are for members of the Greek community only.

Greeks also tend to have a large number of themed parties. These are always fun, since you get to wear a crazy costume and let loose a little bit more.

Penn's frats are known for having good parties. There is always a large diverse group of people. Don't feel bad not being a Penn student and attending their parties ? everyone else does it. Penn's frats are located all around the campus, with a lot on Spruce Street. If there is a cover charge, then there is usually a band or DJ. These parties are usually on the weekends, since UPenn students focus so strongly on their school work throughout the week and party like rock stars on the weekends.

By attending parties and events at Penn and other schools in the area, you're going to meet more people. The more people you meet, the more events in the city you'll know about. Broadening your circle of friends expands you're social calendar.

Philly's large bar scene has so much to offer students when they're 21. If you're under 21 does not mean that you need to be missing out on what's out there. Just because you're under 21, does not mean that you have to stick to house parties for your first few years of college.

Most clubs in Philly have an "18 to enter, 21 to drink" policy. These clubs are a fun change of scenery and a great way to meet new people and brush up on your dancing skills. Philly is hope to so many famous musicians and DJs who often do guest spots around the city. Take advantage of the awesome nightlife that Philly has to offer.

One of the best things about these clubs is the huge diversity amongst people in attendance. You're going to meet so many more people, and be able to expand your horizons beyond Drexel and UPenn students. Going out clubby and dancing is always a great excuse to dress up for a night out on the town.
