If you ever stumble upon the opportunity to visit Drexel University, please take the time to visit Powelton Village. This small, historic town located in West Philadelphia is home to one of the greatest breakfast/lunch eateries in the city.
Although the rough appearance may scare some away, you should not pass up the chance to eat here. I assure you, from many trips here I can say that it is well managed, and very clean. For breakfast there are a number of options. The standard however is a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich or any other meat, egg and cheese sandwich combination for that matter. This succulent delight is served on a long roll, for minimal price of only $2. To compliment this, I recommend getting an order of Kimey's famous home fries. For only an extra $1 why not splurge and enjoy this instant hangover remedy.
The lunch specials are also another reason to make a pilgrimage to Kimey's Place. Much like famous fast food restaurants, Kimey's has its own plethora of value meals to choose from. A vast selection ranging from a traditional Cheeseburger and Fries, to more native Philadelphia specialties like Cheese Steaks, and Fried Fish Sandwiches. These combos are in the $4-5 dollar range, and vary with extras such as a free side of macaroni salad, coleslaw, or soda. Aside from the great food, Kimey's also serves as a local convenience market.
There are no major grocery or chain markets around the Drexel campus, so anything from toilet paper, solo cups, cigarettes, bread, lunch meat, and condiments can call be found here. This really comes in handy mid day when you want to pick up some barbeque items and don't want to lose your parking spot by driving to the supermarket. So, whatever your spontaneous needs may be, Kimey's Place probably has it for you.

Finally...30th street gets a good restaurant...Slainte!
Created by Jessica Lacroce : College Student
If you know and love Penn's New Deck, you'll love there new sister restaurant Slainte. It's food and atmosphere are just as good as that of New Deck, but the menu and decor are a little more sophisticated than most Irish Pubs. Although nicer, the place is very well priced for what you get. And with $2 well drinks and half price off appetizers during happy hour, you really can't beat it.
Final Thoughts
Definitely a nice addition to the underdeveloped area around 30th street station. They also have a great late night bar atmosphere, which surprisingly includes dance music on Saturday nights. Check out there website for events and specials.

'No need to sell your soul to enjoy what the Devil's Alley has to offer. Located at 19th and Chestnut, Devil’s Alley draws in an eclectic variety of people from businessmen to college students, and there’s no wonder why. The savory food and drinks as well as reasonable prices offered here is probable cause for the diversity of patrons.
I have been to Devil’s Alley several times, and each was a unique and very enjoyable experience. Their menu is filled with traditional foods such as burgers and sandwiches, all with a little twist adding to their appeal. Their beef brisket sandwich is absolutely fantastic, in fact, I have never ordered anything other than that for myself; however, I have dined with people who’ve gotten the mac ‘n cheese topped with a tomato jelly, which was probably the among the best mac ‘n cheese I’ve ever eaten. Another favorite is the Devil’s Burger, which is a quarter pound burger topped with shoestring fries and onion rings, and the Devil’s special cheese sauce. Devil’s Alley also offers a fairly large selection of rotating draft beers including Flying Fish, Yards, and Victory Hop Devil.
This bar/restaurant is certainly among the top for food, drinks, and atmosphere in Philadelphia. If you’re looking for a laid back, delicious dining experience I highly recommend a stroll down Devil’s Alley.

White Dog Cafe
Article written by an anonymous user.
The White Dog Cafe is located at 3420 Sansom Street, pretty much on University of Pennsylvania's campus. It's not a bad walk from Drexel.
We're college students. We aren't trying to spend a crazy amount of money, when we go out to dinner, which is why White Dog Cafe is great for a college budget. It's a little pricer than McDonald's, but then again, you're paying more for better quality. You always get your money's worth at White Dog Cafe as well.
The food is good and the prices aren't too high. It's often a college aged crowd or recent graduates, but if you want to take your parents to dinner close, by White Dog Cafe would be great too.
The menu provides great variety. Most of the items on the menu are grown locally. The menu is caters very highly to both vegetarians as well as the health conscious. There are also great steak and fish dishes. Due to the availability of certain ingredients, the menu changes rather frequently.
The decor, correlates with the name. There are dogs all over the place. It's not really tacky, it's more cutesy. The restaurant was originally a townhouse. There are two bars. The one in the front, which is geared more for happy hour and people waiting for tables. The back bar is a piano bar. There is also a patio area for outside seating in the summer months.
Though the atmosphere is laid back, it is also somewhere that you dress up a little for. There's no need for a coat and tie, but no holes in the pants would be a good idea.

Mad Mex
Article written by an anonymous user.
Mad Mex is a Mexican restaurant located at 3401 Walnut Street. The establishment is frequented by both Drexel and UPenn students. Mad Mex is perfect for students on a limited budget.
Their happy hour prices for appetizers are ridiculously low. They have lunch specials Monday-Thursday from 2-4pm. For lunch specials, make sure you bring your student ID, since it is considered a student special. After 11pm, nearly all food is half priced. Lower priced, decent Mexican food has continuously drawn in hoards of college students. Happy hour is from 4:30-6:30pm on weekdays and 10-midnight every night of the week.
The continuous chips and salsa is a great quick appetizer which is brought out with your drinks. The appetizers are pretty good. Mad Mex is often commented on for their wings. They are good, crispy and come with a fabulous blue cheese dressing.
As a Mexican restaurant, obviously the burritos, quesadillas, and tacos are a staple favorite. The food tastes fresh, and not of cheap quality at all. The price for the quality is a good deal.
The decor is also fun. The seats are pretty nice, comfortable booths. The walls are adorned with masks and there are sculptures all around. The music gets pretty loud as the night goes on, but it's usually pretty good. There is a small outside seating area, which is always crowded when it's warm out. The atmosphere is overall casual. People go to Mad 4 Mex to relax and have a good time. Make sure to call and make reservations in advanced for large parties, since the restaurant does get fairly crowded.
