The Old Market is located in downtown Omaha, a stone’s throw from Creighton’s campus. It is filled with great dining, shopping and fun hangouts that Creighton students flock to. Charming cobble stone streets guide through the area towards all of the places worth visiting. There are restaurants to satisfy almost every craving from Italian to barbeque to ethnic food, and don’t forget about the local ice cream shop, Ted and Wally’s. If you are in the mood for pasta, Spaghetti Works is the place for you, where you can create your own pasta dishes with free refills that are big enough to be a couple of meals (for when you have had enough of on-campus food).

For the over 21 crowd, a popular hangout for Creighton students is Billy Frogs, a quaint bar with a signature, dangerously delicious drink called the “Pond scum”—way better than what the name suggests. For a mellower atmosphere, O’Connor’s is one place you can go in the Old Market.

As far as shopping goes, Omaha's Old Market Passageway is filled with numerous stores that carry all sorts of interesting knick-knacks to make your dorm a little cozier. For a sweet tooth, the Old Market Candy Shop on 10th street makes an assortment of fudges and carries other sugary treats that make the shopping day sweeter.

All of these establishments and so much more make the Old Market the fun place to hang out any day of the week.

Omaha’s movie scene satisfies everyone’s tastes. If you are in the mood for Hollywood’s latest release, there are a few places to choose from. Council Bluffs, Iowa just across the state line from Omaha has their Star Cinema with decently priced movie tickets and nice movie viewing atmosphere. The Great Escape Theater is relatively new located on 74th street and Crown Point, it has comparable ticket prices and comfortable seats-perfect for your movie viewing pleasure. If you are in the mood to shop before or after you see a movie, Oak View or Village Point are the theaters for you. They are both farther out west, located on 144th and 174th streets respectively, and cost a little bit more that if you went to Star Cinema or Great Escape. Dundee Theater on 50th and Dodge is a really cool theater built in the 1920s and only has one theater. They show mainly independent films, except for the midnight movies that are older (e.g. The Goonies or Rocky Horror Picture Show). Film Streams located on 14th street is great if you are jones-ing to watch a really old movie. With all of these great movie choices Omaha has to offer, what will you do this weekend?
