Sports Bars and other Watering Holes
Article written by an anonymous user.
Whether you want to watch the big game on TV, or just want to relax and have a drink, Philly offers tons of sports bars to do it at. Chickie's and Pete's is a favorite among Philadelphians, and was even rated third best sports bar in the country, by ESPN. Although located in three different spots in Philly, the biggest and best Chickie's and Pete's is located in South Philly, walking distance away from the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Here, rowdy sports fans can enjoy the famous seafood, ten flat screen TVs, and three bars.
Dave & Busters is another good choice for game-days, but has more of a family-friendly environment. Besides the restaurant, there is a bar area, pool tables, plenty of TVs, and enough video games to keep you busy all day.
McGillin's, the oldest bar in Philadelphia, is located on Drury Street, right around the corner from City Hall. Known as one of the best authentic Philly bars, McGillin's is a favorite among locals, the older college crowd, and business people. The bar is relatively small, and has a more intimate, friendly feel than some of the bigger chain bars.
Lastly, the Draught Horse is always a favorite among students. Located right on Temple's campus, this is hands-down the most convenient bar to get to, and one of the best as well. The bar, which features plenty of Temple memorabilia, has large screen TVs that are perfect for watching the big game, and a 10 foot tall HDTV projection screen that can pretty much top any other sports bar.
"The Horse," as students call it, also features good bar food, and a good variety of beers to choose from. Thursdays are one of the best nights to go, when domestic bottles are $2 and drafts are $1.50.
