Phrenology

Prior to senior year of high school I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. However, once I settled on the idea of becoming a Psychology major, the only thing left to do was decided what I actually wanted to do with that degree. When I started SJU I did not really know which direction I wanted to go in or even if I had a lot of options. I learned, though, that there are a lot of ways to figure out what path to take with your major.

As far as psychology is concerned, there are many options to look at in regard to what to do after college. I did not think that there were so many options and jobs to get with a psych degree. That is where your academic adviser comes in. He or she will guide you step by step to your preferred path in your career. For those, like me, who did not really understand all the options i had open to me, advisers really help you to get to know the different fields and options you have, from doing a five year program to get your masters or realizing that the medical field is right for you, like I did. While this was a little overwhelming to me at first, there were many people to help me decide if medical school was right for me and continue to help me through each step of the process.

I want students to know that they have many options to look forward to after they decide on their major. There is not one path that is better than any other, but each person has to find the right one for them. And if people are worried about not being able to decide, there are always advisers and teachers to help through the process.
