The psychology major at Loyola offers a holistic approach to studying the human psyche. Typical courses within the psych major include topics around cognition, learning, development, social interactions, behavior, research, and abnormalities to name a few. Within the psychology curriculum you are also presented with opportunities to develop, conduct, and analyze your own experiments.
For those interested in research in psych there is also ample opportunity to participate as a research assistant for renowned professionals in the field. I spent a year working in a Social Psychology lab conducting experiments and analyzing data for a book that Dr. Fred Bryant (a popular psych professor at Loyola and distinguished Social Psychologist) wrote on happiness. These experiences not only allowed me to leave a small mark on the world of psychology, but also gave me a firm foundation for work in the field and a promising graduate education.
Loyola's psych program provides a solid background from which many opportunities are created. The faculty is outstanding, with few exceptions. Some are "celebrities" within the field, with their research being taught in textbooks used across the country. My education through this department will certainly benefit my personal and professional life for years to come.
