Student housing was originally only available in the Lincoln Park campus but in the summer of 2004 DePaul opened the doors of the University Center of Chicago (UCC). This building is the joint development by DePaul, Roosevelt University and Columbia College, allowing UCC residents to mingle with other Chicago college students on a day to day basis. Located on the busy intersection of State Street and Congress Parkway, the UCC is across from the famous Harold Washington Library and minutes away from several theaters and endless shopping.

Students adore these new living quarters and each room has a view of the city that most people would pay thousands a month for. But don?t think these kids got lucky. The UCC is one of the most, if not the most expensive dorms to live in, but many say its well worth (your parents) shelling out the dough. One setback is that since it is located in the Loop, students definitely make the commute to Lincoln Park for nightlife because there is little to do once the sun goes down in this area.

There are 2 room layouts available. There is the quad semi-suite shared 4 people: 2 in one room, 2 in the other and their rooms are joined by a bathroom they share. The other is a 4 person/4 bedroom suite with 2 bathrooms a kitchen and dining area as well as a common space. Studio and 2 bedroom apartments are available as well but those are typically taken by returning students (sorry freshmen.) These are dorms that are not to be mistaken for cinderblock cells with bunked beds. As far as amenities go, the UCC is chuck full of them. Aside from the view, the UCC has high speed internet (which all dorms have) laundry facilities, elevators (it?s an 18 level building) cafeteria and a posh lounge.

One thing that parents can rest easy on is knowing that their child will be safe at school because the security in this building is intense. There is a guard at the front desk at all times watching students enter as well as checking in their guests (only 3 per resident) Students and their guests must keep identification on their person at all times- and these guards mean business.
