I Took The El
Article written by an anonymous user.
DePaul students have it made with transportation. The city of Chicago is home to one of the best public transportation systems in the nation. ?The El,? as it is more commonly referred to is easy to use and runs frequently. It?s inexpensive but students do not need to worry about having cash for a fare because a portion of tuition goes toward a U-Pass. This card grants Chicago college kids unlimited usage of Chicago Transit (CTA) during the academic year. (Insert yourcta.com link) DePaul students take the El all over Chicago. Whether its a trip to Target, a museum visit, bar hopping or simply getting to class, Chicago Transit makes a big city travel seem like a walk across the quad.
Buses and trains are not always nessessary for students to get around- many enjoy walking or riding a bicycle. Students feel like walking allows them to become accustom to their urban campus and gives them the opportunity to appreciate all that Chicago has to offer. Bikes allow for quick travel in tight spots or a leisurely way to enjoy the lakefront. Because DePaul is located in the city, it is never hard to catch a cab when you are short on time. Taxis can get quite expensive, but students will gladly pay if it means they are ensured a safe ride home from a night out.
Since DePaul has such a vast campus, students learn how to navigate to and from classes rather quickly. By allowing themselves to be completely immersed in the city life, students leave DePaul with a greater understanding of the city that any Chicago native would be impressed with.
