Cozy noodles

Chicago is a city for food fanatics. Sick of studying? In the “hurt box” from too much Philips vodka at Hamilton’s? First college lesson, don’t drink alcohol that comes in a plastic bottle. Second lesson, food nourishes the body and soul and often has medicinal effects on vicious hangovers. Grab mom’s credit card and a handful of loan money and eat your way through the city. The best Rogers Park (RP) diner to nurse a hangover is the Deluxe Diner (6349 N Clark St.). Stumble out of bed, put on a velour jumpsuit, grab your clutch from the previous evenings shenanigans and go get yourself a delicious greasy skillet and an endless cup of coffee. The Deluxe is the perfect spot for friends to congregate and piece together their drunken escapades in an unpretentious college student friendly atmosphere. Seeking to class up your act in the RP with an evening of dining and drinks? Down a Grand Cosmo and squeeze onto the dance floor to shimmy to some local talent at the Morseland (1218 W. Morse Ave.). They have outdoor seating and a pool table, so this venue is appealing to most personality types (except maybe the penny pincher, but who wants to hang with him/her anyway?). The RP is also home to numerous ethnic restaurants, so put down that bland turkey sandwich and broaden your horizons. The thought of eating ethnic food in Chicago makes me salivate. Take a stroll down Devon to little India and stuff your face with samosas, a true culinary delight! I also recommend an evening of Thai at Thai Spice (1320 W. Devon Ave.). The food is tasty, the portions are generous, the owner is awesome, and it is BYOB. What more could an adventurous college student want?

Craving a night out of the RP? To satisfy a sushi craving dine at Rise (3401 N. Southport Ave.) in the Southport corridor. This is a good place to go when somebody else is paying (thanks dad!). There is outdoor seating and they serve an amazing honey roll. If you are in Wrigleyville, I recommend eating at my dining obsession, Cozy Noodles and Rice (3456 N. Sheffield Ave). I still daydream about their pad see ewe and drunken noodle dishes. One of their bathrooms is decorated with Pez dispensers and they are BYOB. Enough said. For an absolutely worthwhile dining trip outside the RP I highly recommend Andalous Moroccan Restaurant (3307 N. Clark). Crack a bottle of wine (they are also BYOB, a common theme amongst my favorite restaurants), sit near the window, and order the lamb couscous and the chicken pastilla. Both dishes are savory and guaranteed to leave you with a permanent craving. Chicago offers an endless array of wonderful restaurants. So leave the RP, guiltlessly spend your loan money, and make the freshmen fifteen worthwhile.
