Bar Party
Article written by an anonymous user.
Like most city schools, DePaul University students experience the college partying life style a little differently from the rest of their collegiate cohorts. Unlike many universities in Illinois, they are not confined to a campus surrounded by cornfields and country roads, nor are they restrained by lack of venues, bars or transportation. But rather, DePaul students have the city of Chicago at their disposal.
The number one spot for DePaul students to party are the bars. Many stay around the "campus" area, Lincoln Park, where the concentration of DePaul students is higher and the drinking specials are more frequent. These are the watering holes that are either walking distance or a small cab fare away. Thursdays are heavy partying nights for these kids who will then venture north to Wrigleyville on Fridays and Saturdays. The more daring Blue Demon will occasionally head out to Chicago's busiest clubs and stay out dancing until morning. In short, DePaul has great night life; whether you desire a sports bar, a local pub, heart pounding clubs or a swanky martini bar. If you want to run into classmates or completely avoid them, there is a place for everyone to party.
Of course the bar scene is not for everyone especially those of us who are not 21 and those who cannot afford downtown Chicago drink prices. (See jobs section) Not to worry though. There are plenty of opportunities to hang out and party with your friends in the dorms or apartments. When students want to get out of their rooms for a good time, many head over to Grant Park, which is the host of tons of festivals and concerts in Chicago. There are several intimate concert venues like The House of Blues, the Metro and the Riv, where all ages shows are commonplace.
