International student, hmmm, technically I am one myself, as I actually was born in South Korea. However, with regards to "international" students who've actually grown up elsewhere, we have no lack of them here at Wash U. I will speak just about the Asians here, since those are the vast majority that I know (and likely a vast majority of international students in general).

Out of the many international students hailing from Asia, my own experience tells me that most hail from Korea, with China in second and Japan at third. For the most part, you will not have trouble talking to them, with some exceptions on the Korean side. The Koreans at Wash U unfortunately tend to form their own Korean-speaking clique, which as an official student group, is known as KISS (Korean International Student Society). This is not to say that they are all stand-offish, but it is something to say that Korean is the single most prevalent foreign language I hear on a regulat basis hear, once again, with Chinese a decent second, and Japanese and other languages a far third.

With respect to the international community here as a whole, however, most of the students are fairly well integrated into the general population. It helps that the dorms here have no special section for internationals, though one dorm, Beaumont, tends to get a higher proportion of Asians, and thus, international students as well. You will find Asians involved in most every aspect of student life, and as mentioned in another article I wrote, the multicultural events, the weekend, Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year, all quite high profiles on campus.
