George Washington offers a uniquely urban environment. Indeed, the school blends seamlessly into the city while maintaining a community atmosphere. George Washington's campus is peppered with buildings that are not related to the university, but dorms and classrooms are close together, allowing student to feel like they are still on a college campus.

Part of the school's atmosphere is due to George Washington's unified architecture and ample green space. Even though GW is located in downtown Washington, the campus is littered with small parks, flowerbeds, and trees. Moreover, many of the sidewalks are brick, contrasting from the drab off-white concrete that covers most of DC. Some of the buildings have even been designed to match Foggy Bottom's historic architecture.

Living in the Capitol

George Washington is located in the heart of America's capitol. The school is located a few blocks away from the White House, next to the World Bank, and less than a mile away from the K Street lobbying firms and interest groups. Students have easy access to the monuments as well as the Orange and Blue subway lines, allowing them to reach Congress and the Supreme Court in less than half an hour.

On and Off Campus

During the day, George Washington's campus is bustling with activity. Students scurry off to their next class, to get a bite to eat, or to hang out with their friends. One thing a visitor will always notice is that students always have somewhere to be?the pace of the school is anything but relaxed. Because professionals in DC are almost as common as students in Foggy Bottom, the campus has an interesting blend of students in casual clothes and yuppies in suits.

The campus quiets down dramatically on weeknights. Like the rest of the city, Foggy Bottom empties out and becomes almost eerily quiet. The weekends, however, are quite different: starting at dusk, jubilant and sometimes intoxicated students take to the streets and celebrate their freedom from classes.
