The Temple train station is located on Berks Street between 9th and 10th streets, just a couple blocks from campus, and all the major regional trains come through here. The fare is $3.00 within the city, and increases the further away you ride. If you are not on an Express train, make sure to have an iPod or good book on hand because getting to the other side of the city can take up to 20 minutes.

There is also the Broad Street subway line, which runs north to south, and the Market-Frankford subway which runs east to west. Both subway lines cost $2.00, and students can purchase tokens individually or get daily, weekly or monthly unlimited-ride train passes, which range from $5.50 for the day to $80 for the month. Temple offers a University Pass Program which gives students a 10% discount on train passes, so it is definitely a good idea to get a pass and save some money if you think you will be taking the train a lot.

Students can also take a bus or trolley to get around, but the schedules and routes tend to be confusing. Also, trains usually do not run past midnight, so students' last resort is to call a cab. Be careful when relying on cabs though, especially after a night out at the bars, because cabbies in Philly are known for taking the long route, or for overcharging drunk college students who they assume won't know the difference. If you do choose to get a cab, however, make sure you have a general idea of where you are going, and the best way to get there.

Cab rides are usually about $10 within the city, except for going to the airport which comes to about $25, but it is probably the furthest you need to go taking a cab. Make sure to have at least three or four cab company phone numbers in your cell phone for those nights when you have missed your train or do not feel like waiting around.
