Alive and Well
Article written by an anonymous user.
The party scene at George Washington is alive and well. There are three major places to find fun: in the dorms, in the apartments, and in the row houses. Dorm parties are typically dominated by freshmen; the biggest places to find a fiesta are Thurston Hall, on the Foggy Bottom campus, and Somers Hall, on Mt. Vernon campus. These tend to get broken up, however, because University Police and community facilitators (GWU's version of resident advisers) constantly patrol the halls.
Off-campus apartment parties are typically a lot more fun, although you usually have to have an invitation or know someone who does. Securing an invitation is usually difficult for freshmen, so make sure you branch out and meet lots of people. Parties range from about 20-50 people, and there is usually a keg or a table full of liquor for the of-age crowd. All the people crammed into one apartment can heat things up, so dress accordingly. The only downside to apartment parties is that sometimes cranky neighbors complain and the music has to be turned down.
Townhouse parties are dominated by the G.W.U. Greek crowd and are the largest and most open parties on campus. Usually it is easy enough to simply walk up and head on in. You may be asked to pay a cover to help with the cost of the keg, but it is usually no more than five bucks, and ladies usually get in free. Students often suggest townhouse row as the best place to go.
